GIVE A KID AN IDEA
Here are some ways to get ideas for stories!
1. USING TITLES

Sometimes I hear something that sounds like a title.  One day, I saw a dalmation and I said to my friend "He'd look funny in red, high top sneakers!"  My friend replied, "Dogs don't wear sneakers!"

That was all it took for me to start writing my book DOGS DON'T WEAR SNEAKERS.

Try to think of silly things and write them down as titles! Who knows? You just might come up with a book idea from hearing a title!

Here are some  of my suggestions. See how many you can come up with!

A.  WHERE IS MY LEFT SHOE?

B.  LUCY'S PURPLE OVERALLS

C.  TWO MONSTERS AT THE BEACH

D.  MY DOG SPEAKS FRENCH

E.  WHICH WAY IS THE ZOO?

2. DO A DRAWING FIRST!
I once did a sketch of a little boy holding a sweater that had the ugliest
pattern. It gave me an idea to write a book called THE UGLIEST SWEATER!

Look through photographs, magazines, even drawings you've done and see if anything gives you an idea to write a story.

I collect pictures of things that make me laugh! Just looking at them makes me feel creative and in the mood to write! You can paste them in a notebook or put them on your bulletin board.

In my office, I have a HUGE bulletin board covered with images I've collected!

3.  STORY STARTERS

See if you can write a book like IF YOU GIVE A MOUSE A COOKIE using these suggestions. You can look at my books for ideas. Try to have the story end where it began! Remember, the mouse got a cookie and wanted milk. In the end, he got milk and then wanted a cookie!

IF YOU GIVE A TURTLE A TACO

IF YOU GIVE A BEE A BAGEL

IF YOU GIVE A HORSE A HAT

IF YOU GIVE A LAMB A LOLLIPOP

IF YOU GIVE A WORM A WAFFLE

JUST REMEMBER THE MOST IMPORTANT THING:
HAVE FUN!!!!

I'll be adding new ideas from time to time!
